GLCFP has again been awarded a grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture to provide scholarships to Michigan local public health personnel who are involved with food inspections to attend training and/or educational conferences.
This year, the GLCFP Board has also voted to set aside funds to provide scholarships (up to $500) to GLCFP Members who are not eligible for the traditional Food Safety and Education Training scholarships (including academia, consumers, industry members, Michigan state regulators or state/local regulators outside of Michigan).
Process for Application and Reimbursement for GLCFP 2024-2025 Scholarships:
Applicability:
This applies to funding of approved continuing education scholarships by the Great Lakes Conference on Food Protection. Training must be related to food safety training or education and the funds must be used by food safety professionals.
Approval:
The application must be approved by the GLCFP Scholarship Chair (BullL@michigan.gov) prior to the conference/training.
Process:
1. It is recommended that cost be minimized as much as feasible, particularly as it applies to travel. Search for lowest possible airfare with reasonable schedules. If traveling by car, carpool if possible.
2. All costs will be paid up front by the scholarship participant, and then the scholarship participant will be reimbursed by GLCFP up to the pre-approved scholarship amount.
3. For grant year 2024-2025, maximum scholarship amounts for Michigan local public health regulators are $750 for in-state travel and $1,000 for out-of-state travel. For non 'Michigan local public health regulators,' the maximum scholarship amount is $500.
4. After the travel is completed, the scholarship participant shall compile the reimbursable expenses on the Scholarship Reimbursement Expense Report along with receipts. Reimbursable expenses are defined as: conference or training registration, travel, and meals/per diem. Mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal rate.
5. All reimbursement requests must be received by the GLCFP Scholarship Chair within 30 days of attendance at the event or funding may be forfeited.
6. The scholarship participant shall also include, with reimbursement documentation, a brief letter to the GLCFP Board identifying the food safety training/education and benefit(s) accrued as a result of the authorized travel.
7. All documentation shall then be forwarded to the GLCFP Scholarship Chair (BullL@michigan.gov).
